چکیده
Abstract High-pressure water jets bear a great technological potential to enhance geothermal deep drilling. Compared existing cutting technologies, significantly different operation conditions are encountered under deep-drilling conditions, such as high ambient pressures. The fundamental fluid mechanics affected by those conditions. In this work we examine the influence of increasing pressure up 12.0 MPa on jet characteristics submerged drilling PIV measurements flow field at changing cavitation numbers reveal two characteristic regimes, which distinguished critical number. cavitating regime, decays considerably faster with distance nozzle than in non-cavitating regime. addition that, an intensity shortens core length and increases spreading angle has similar effect turbulence single-phase flows. Olfactory search at high Reynolds number
Locating the source of odor in a turbulent environment-a common behavior for living organisms-is nontrivial because of the random nature of mixing. Here we analyze the statistical physics aspects of the problem and propose an efficient strategy for olfactory search that can work in turbulent plumes. The algorithm combines the maximum likelihood inference of the source position with an active se...
متن کاملMHD turbulence at high Reynolds number
Scientific context Magnetic fields are important dynamically in a variety of situations in geophysics and astrophysics. Numerous observations are appearing, e.g. thanks to remote sensing and in particular to the CLUSTER ensemble of 4 satellites, allowing for an estimation of fields and of their derivatives in the Solar Wind close environment. In the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) approximation valid...
متن کاملPopulation dynamics at high Reynolds number.
We study the statistical properties of population dynamics evolving in a realistic two-dimensional compressible turbulent velocity field. We show that the interplay between turbulent dynamics and population growth and saturation leads to quasilocalization and a remarkable reduction in the carrying capacity. The statistical properties of the population density are investigated and quantified via...
متن کاملDifferential diffusion in low Reynolds number water jets
Experimental data on differential diffusion between two species with large and quite disparate Schmidt numbers were obtained in a turbulent water jet by optically measuring the two species concentrations simultaneously. Experimental conditions were chosen so that the species were dilute and did not affect the water density thereby avoiding inertial effects. Differential diffusion was found to b...
متن کاملHigh–Reynolds Number Wall Turbulence
We review wall-bounded turbulent flows, particularly high–Reynolds number, zero–pressure gradient boundary layers, and fully developed pipe and channel flows. It is apparent that the approach to an asymptotically high– Reynolds number state is slow, but at a sufficiently high Reynolds number the log law remains a fundamental part of the mean flow description. With regard to the coherent motions...
